Wednesday, the 28th of November 2012 - Police in
Garissa have arrested 10 more suspects over the
killing of three Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF) officers last week.
Besides the killing of the three soldiers, the 10 suspects
arrested today have also been linked to the sporadic killing of policeofficers in the town in the
last few months.
The arrest of
the suspects is the latest sign that police officers are stepping up their
crackdown on members and sympathizers of the Al Shabaab terror outfit which has
been linked to the attacks.
Sources told the Kenyan DAILY
POST that police have in recent days been combing the town for unwanted
elements.
Today’s arrests bring
the total number of those who have been nabbed for last week’s attack on the
KDF officers to 11. On Tuesday a man by the name Ibrahim Jelle Belle, who is said to have confessed to participating in the attack, was brought before a Garissa court.
The accused did not enter a
plea because the prosecution wanted more time to conduct investigations. The
prosecution said the man had been positively identified by two KDF officers who
survived last week’s attack.
The case will be mention on the
9th of
December.
