Naivasha man handed 9 months for skipping TB drugs

Tuesday, November 27, 2012 - A middle aged man who works at a flower farm was yesterday sentenced to nine months imprisonment for failing to take his Tuberculosis drugs.

The court heard that Ezekiel Karanja fell ill in the year 2009 and was diagnosed with TB. He was treated and put under medication but has not been to take the drugs as prescribed which has led to the infection of three members of his family.

Appearing before Naivasha Principal Magistrate Esther Boke, Karanja pleaded guilty to the offense and Boke sentenced him to nine months in prison.

Karanja will be kept under special care where his treatment will be monitored until he completes treatment. He was said to be a danger to the public as he may have infected many more people in both his work place and public unknowingly.
