Wednesday November 28, 2012 - The Luhya Council of Elders has welcomed Justice and
Constitutional Affairs minister Eugene Wamalwa after he ditched the mooted alliance
involving Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William
Ruto.
Through the Council chairman
Patrick Wangamati, the leaders expressed their
happiness with Wamalwa’s move, saying they will ensure he remains relevant
politically.
“It is good that Eugene Wamalwa
has seen light at the end of the tunnel because he has been our biggest problem
in uniting the Luhya Presidential aspirants,” Wangamati said.
The chairman said efforts by
the elders to ensure the region fields one Presidential candidate had
been frustrated by elected leaders who were hijacked by power brokers.
He said the Luhya community
will convene a meeting with all Presidential aspirants to find a way forward.
Among the Presidential candidates expected
at the meeting includes Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, Eugene Wamalwa,
Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo and Trade Minister Moses Wetangula.
