Why UHURU/RUTO deal was quickly RECALLED

Wednesday November 28, 2012 -Barely hours after Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta announced that they have sealed a pre-election pact with Eldoret North MP William Ruto, Uhuru Kenyatta rapidly backtracked.

The announcement of their pre-election pact was apparently recalled yesteterday after protests from Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Eugene Wamalwa.

Kalonzo and Wamalwa both reportedly protested at the announcement and requested more time to be enjoined in the alliance.

The two leaders were promised that the deal will be held until Sunday so that they can make up their minds.

One of the conspiracy theories going round is that Uhuru released the statement early to provoke a reaction.

“Uhuru suspected Kalonzo and Eugene were playing him, so to get them to make up their minds, he released the announcement prematurely,” said an MP who is a close ally.

Ruto was also reportedly unhappy that the deal was unilaterally announced by the Uhuru team. He called Uhuru and asked for time to consult with leaders today.
